Interview on Radio Beverwijk about sexual abuse and the book 'Letter to My Perpetrator'.

I tell why I kept silent for forty years that I was abused. About guilt and shame. Which made me vulnerable to abuse.
About forgiveness. What makes a perpetrator a perpetrator. Why it is so difficult to talk about abuse. And about my next book.

How can we talk about abuse?

November 11, 2023

CASTRICUM - At least twenty-two percent of women and six percent of men in the Netherlands have experienced sexual violence. We do not know it about each other because we remain silent about it. Ans Breetveld, too, only broke her secret after forty years by writing about it. The result is *Brief aan mijn dader* (Letter to My Perpetrator), a novel about trauma and forgiveness.

My boyfriend can't handle criticism, what can I do?

February 1, 2026

When I tell him what I find annoying about what my boyfriend does or says, he focuses mostly on defending and denying. I communicate using "I" statements, but I hit a brick wall. A few times I have told him that I cannot continue with him like this. Then there seems to be a bit of an opening, and we can start making agreements. But later, he accuses me of threatening to break up. What can I do?
